Thomas is not your average kid -- he's a detective who has already solved some big cases. But at a family wedding, a new question appears:
Why do Catholics talk about Mary so much?
Statues, medals, prayers, feast days ... His Protestant cousin Hope thinks it's all "too much," and Thomas isn't sure how to explain why it isn't.
Then a very special chest reappears in his room. Clues from a mysterious "K.W." and a "passport" set Thomas on a globe-trotting investigation:
- to Lourdes, France and a girl who met "the Immaculate Conception"
- to Ephesus, Turkey and a council about the "Mother of God"
- to Poland, Rwanda, and Mexico -- where the Virgin Mary has appeared out of thin air.
Putting all the pieces together, Thomas discovers Mary's vital place in God's plan to save the world.
But will he be able to explain it all to Hope?
