August 11, 2025, will be the 270th anniversary of the first public use of the Wesley Covenant Prayer. Wesley introduced it in a worship service in Spitalfield, England on August 11, 1755. Here’s what he wrote in his journal:
“At six in the evening we met for that purpose. After I had recited the movement of the proposed covenant, all those who desired to give testimony of their entrance into this covenant stood up, to the number of about 1,800 persons. Such a night I’d rarely seen before. Surely the fruit of it will remain forever.”
One Faithful Promise
Wesley's covenant renewal is a faithful promise to love God and neighbor.
