What does it look like to be a church that cares for one another and tends to the needs of its neighbors?
Adult Bible Studies Summer 2027 invites adults into a quarter on that question under the theme "The Church: Calls, Prayers, and Encouragement," drawing on Scripture from both the Old Testament and the New to consider how a congregation can live as one people.
The study moves through three units. In "Calls to the Church," the prophets Amos and Micah recall God's expectation that we attend to the needs of the people around us; centered on Micah 6:8 — to "do justice, embrace faithful love, and walk humbly with your God" — the unit reads these prophets as words as applicable to the modern church as they were to the Israelites. In "Prayers for the Church," the study looks closely at four prayers from Paul and Jesus for the church itself, considering how the church experiences joy, comfort, encouragement, thanksgiving, and praise to become one people united by the Holy Spirit. In "Being the Church," five weeks in the book of Romans explore what it means to live faithfully and mercifully day to day — not as individuals only, but as the unified body of Christ, sharing a life together that is not always easy yet is exactly what God's love calls us to.
Each lesson features focal Scripture passages printed in full, key verses, background context, and practical application questions designed to move participants from biblical knowledge into lived Christian discipleship. Spiritual practices such as prayer, worship, and community engagement are woven throughout to support growth beyond the classroom.
