As we await the arrival of Jesus on Christmas morning during the Advent season, we not only reflect upon our need for a Savior to bring light and salvation, but our need for a word to answer the silence of hopelessness and sin. The incarnation is the breaking in of proclamation, of a voice in the wilderness, of the Word himself who brings faith, life everlasting, and righteousness. This Advent, we take a closer look at passages that remind us our God does not remain silent forever for he is not only the God of goodness, light, and love but the God who speaks. His Word creates, judges, raises the dead, redeems, and gives faith. Caught between the Advents of our Messiah, this Word continues to speak to us through his Scriptures and his Sacraments. Christ has come in the flesh. Christ will come again in glory. And in between, he is not silent. He still speaks.
