You are called to serve.
Jesus didn't shy away from saying hard things to His followers, which includes us. Because despite our desire to be coddled, comforted, placated, and preferred, helping us see and submit to what's true is the most loving thing Jesus could do.
This book, alongside Season 6 of The Chosen, covers the brutal crucifixion of the Savior of the world--which led to the miraculous resurrection that frees us from the tyranny of sin and death, along with our otherwise incurable self-focus.
But let's back up because just before He willingly went to the cross, Jesus talked to His disciples about serving: "Whoever would be great among you must be your servant... even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many" (Matthew 20:26-28).
As strange as it sounds to our modern-day "me first" ears, being a servant is what we were created for, and what will actually bring us the most fulfillment, peace, and joy on this earth. Because as it turns out, we're not entitled to anything. But because of Jesus we have access to everything that matters.
That's the truth. And in His service, and under His loving care and constant provision, we'll come to know, understand, and reflect the character of the greatest Servant of all.
