When you struggle to find the right words in prayer, these Scripture-shaped prayers offer a voice for bringing your fears, joys, burdens, and thanksgiving before your heavenly Father.
Throughout his ministry as a pastor and professor, Daniel M. Deutschlander had a gift for applying the wisdom of Scripture to the struggles, questions, and concerns of daily life. In his two-volume devotional work On Giving Advice to God: Devotions on the Wisdom of God and the Foolishness of Man, each devotion concluded with a prayer marked by humility, trust, and thanksgiving.
On Presenting Requests to God gathers these 187 prayers into one collection, allowing readers to meditate on prayers that address the physical and spiritual burdens, joys, fears, and concerns that accompany the Christian life. While originally written as part of a larger devotional work, these prayers stand on their own as a resource for personal prayer, family devotion, pastoral care, and Christian instruction.
Giving advice to God reveals the foolishness of man, but bringing our requests before him is a faith-filled response to the gracious invitation of our Father in heaven. He does not need our counsel, but he delights in hearing the prayers of his children.
Whether you are seeking words for your own prayers, resources for teaching and ministry, or encouragement in bringing every concern before the Lord, these prayers from the pastoral heart of Professor Deutschlander offer guidance and comfort rooted in God's Word.
This volume also includes a collection of brief devotions by Professor Deutschlander on the Lord's Prayer and a topical index to help readers quickly find prayers for specific needs and occasions.
"Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God" (Philippians 4:6).
