Most of us are aware that Paul wrote thirteen New Testament letters, but few of us are aware of his full missionary journey to take the gospel to those who did not know about the good news of Jesus recorded in the book of Acts. Paul and his missionary partners persevered through great adversity for almost fifteen years. Their perseverance to share the gospel is why so many of us are followers of Jesus today.
So, what was his secret source? What was his strategy? What sustained him as he went?
As we retrace the steps of Paul on his various missionary journeys, we too will be inspired to continue what he started and take the good news of Jesus into our world. Paul always understood the beliefs, customs, worldview, and philosophies of the people he was communicating with and that is one reason he was so effective. Paul and Barnabas found their joy, their hope, and their strength in the power of the Holy Spirit. Their joy was found in their obedience to Christ and not in the approval of people.
What would happen if we started our days saying, "Holy Spirit, I am available. Where do You want to send me?" And then followed His lead? Whether it's across a coffee shop, across a street or across the globe? And what would happen if we not only relied on Him at the start, but relied on Him to give strength so we could stay steadfast in the face of discouragement? In the face of abandonment? In the face of rejection? Even in the face of persecution? Great or small.
What would if we lived that life of submission and dependence? We'd LIVE the pages of Scripture. And see God write a story that brings Him great glory as He works through our laid-down lives to save souls for eternity again and again and again.
