The Balm of Gilead has deep biblical significance and is referenced in the Old Testament of the Bible. In Genesis 37:25, when Joseph's brothers sought to sell him into slavery, they encountered a caravan of traders bearing gum, balm, and myrrh on their way to Egypt.
