When Scripture describes the role of a pastor, it often uses the metaphor of a shepherd. Though we typically turn to the pastoral epistles for instruction on ministry, Ezekiel 34 provides the clearest direction in Scripture on what shepherds should and shouldn't do. The passage reveals eight functions that God expects of his shepherds. Anyone called of God to shepherd a congregation needs to be reminded that with the high privilege of a divine calling comes the high standards of divine expectations. Fortunately, God has already shown us the template by which our ministries will be measured. This volume shows how the mandate of God, the needs of the sheep, and the model of the Good Shepherd will inspire and equip you to fulfill your ministry as a shepherd.
