These rights are grounded in God’s gracious act in creation (Genesis 1.27), and they are revealed fully in Jesus’ incarnation of divine love. As a church, we will work to protect these rights and freedoms within the church and to reform the structures of society to ensure that every human being can thrive.” The Book of Discipline 2020/2024, ¶163.

We live in an increasingly fragmented world. Political parties and factions deploy nationalistic visions to divide citizens from another. The inequality of wealth, climate change, violence, and war force human migration in unprecedented numbers. Corruption in political systems and among leaders increases fear and enforces conformity. The manipulation of media, social media, and artificial intelligence communications undermines the possibility of understanding truth from falsehood.
