After nearly thirty years as missionaries in Brazil, Renate Reiner and her husband were headed to the USA to begin a new chapter of their lives. They looked forward to becoming part of the administrative staff at their mission agency's headquarters. Renate's husband, Doug, was not feeling well and was admitted to the hospital for several days. The diagnosis was pancreatic cancer. Renate was suddenly launched on the most difficult path she has ever walked. The next year was filled with uncertainty, anxiety, prayer, pleading, and surrender. Doug lost his battle to the disease but gained heaven, which is infinitely better. Renate lost her partner and companion but gained a better understanding of God's love and sovereignty.
The Lord brought Isaiah 43:1-7 to her through two different sources. This prompted her to dig into Scripture and confront her fears. As she recognized, identified, and dealt with each one, she came to understand that promises from God's word are not subject to the circumstances in one's life. Those truths remain constant. The important lessons she learned have brought great comfort and healing, and she was compelled to share them. Renate Reiner hopes they may be an encouragement to others.
