This work investigates how human dignity is established and defended within philosophical, theological and pedagogical texts. The theologies of various religions combine an abstract perspective on human dignity with a recognition of concrete suffering and warn against any abuse of human dignity. Theological narratives not only recognise human dignity, they insist that this dignity be protected.
