The present volume explores the relationship between Platonism and Christianity in late antiquity with regard to concept of God, world formation, creation, providence, and freedom. The contributions by Christoph Markschies, Holger Strutwolf, Christian Pietsch, and Alfons Furst were presented at a colloquium on the occasion of Barbara Aland's eighty-fifth birthday and are collected in the present volume together with a reply by the jubilarian and a short introduction by Eve-Marie Becker.
