The word ""supervision"" can have a negative connotation to those being supervised and leaders alike. Kenneth Pohly (1923-2016) joined the faculty of United Theological Seminary (Dayton, Ohio) in 1969 as Professor of Pastoral Care and Director of Supervised Ministry. In 1980 he established the Pohly Center for Supervision and Leadership Formation, which continues to carry out his mission of transforming the leadership practice of both persons and institutions. Ken graduated from North Central College, received the Master of Divinity degree from Garrett Evangelical Theological Seminary, and the Doctor of Ministry degree from Vanderbilt University. Ken traveled widely, lecturing and leading workshops in pastoral supervision. He authored two books, published several articles in professional journals, and served his church, Fairview United Methodist.
