Cuando escuchamos el nombre de Pedro, el apóstol de Jesucristo, cuál es la primera imagen que viene a la mente? «Impetuoso , «Gran fanfarrón , «Obstinado y creído , o «Cobarde porque negó al Señor Jesús tres veces . Lejos de merecer su apodo de «hombre de piedra , Pedro parece ser una figura tragicómica, volátil, voluble y carente de la madurez espiritual que uno esperaría encontrar en el
líder de los discípulos de Jesucristo. El mismo Pedro sería el primero en reconocer la validez de algunas de estas cualidades despectivas.

Pero también muestran el lento proceso por el que la gracia de Jesús transforma a personas tan comunes y corrientes como nosotros. La vida de Pedro sirve como una «ventana por medio de la cual podamos volver a contemplar, apreciar y abrazar la gloria de la gracia de Jesucristo.
El autor se esfuerza por no presentar a Pedro como «ejemplo , ni para imitar ni tampoco para denigrar, sino más bien para mirar a Cristo por medio de las «ventanas que ofrece la vida de Pedro. En palabras del autor: «El deseo irresistible que dio a luz a este libro es mi propia intención de seguir creciendo en la gracia y el conocimiento de Jesucristo, hasta mi último respiro en esta tierra, [durante este peregrinaje en el que] somos llamados a vivir como piedras vivas .

When we hear the name Peter, the apostle of Jesus Christ, what is the first image that comes to mind? "Impetuous," 'Great braggart, ' 'Self-willed and self-believing, ' or "Cowardly because he denied the Lord Jesus three times." Far from deserving his nickname of "man of stone," Peter seems to be a tragicomic figure, volatile, flighty and lacking the spiritual maturity one would expect to find in the leader of the disciples of Jesus Christ.
Peter himself would be the first to recognize the validity of some of these derogatory qualities.
The pages of the Gospels paint Peter's stumbles in more vivid colors than those of any other biblical character. But they also show the slow process by which the grace of Jesus transforms people as ordinary as we are. Peter's life serves as a "window" through which we can once again contemplate, appreciate and embrace the glory of the grace of Jesus Christ.
The author strives not to present Peter as an "example," neither to imitate nor to denigrate, but rather to look at Christ through the "windows" offered by Peter's life. In the author's words, "The irresistible desire that gave birth to this book is my own intention to continue to grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ, until my last breath on this earth, [during this pilgrimage in which] we are called to live as living stones."
