In The Day the Earth Stood Still, a remake of the 1951 sci-fi classic, an extraterrestrial named Klaatu chides humanity for its treatment of the earth and decides that human beings must be destroyed to save the planet. In this issue of LinC, we’ll look at some of the crises facing humanity and the earth, but we will not advocate for the destruction of humankind. Instead we’ll look to the gospel and remember that God rules our world, redeems the world through Christ, and calls us to participate in God’s redemptive work. Key Scriptures: Psalm 46; Luke 12:54-56; Ephesians 5:15-20. Happy New Year! Actually, not all cultures celebrate the new year on January 1. Maybe we shouldn’t either. As Christians, we should approach every day as the start of something new, as an occasion to put past mistakes behind us and resolve to do better, and as an opportunity to claim God’s incredible grace and forgiveness through Christ.
