New Moon, the movie version of the second novel in the Twilight series, opened two weeks ago with one of the biggest single-weekend box office takes in history. At the heart of the Twilight Saga is the main characters’ desire to be fully known and loved. Similarly, Christians desire assurance that we are fully known and loved by Christ. This desire often is at the heart of our worship services during the Advent season. LinC explores what it means that Christ knows us and loves us, how our relationship with God through Christ changes us, and how this relationship leads us to know and love others. Key Scriptures: Psalm 139; 1 Corinthians 13; Hebrews 2:10-18. Each Advent season brings controversies over the placement of Nativity scenes on public land and whether retailers specifically say “Christmas” (rather than “holidays”) in their advertising. Instead of discussing these controversies, next week’s LinC will look at ways that we as Christians cheapen the true meaning of Christmas through materialism, blindness to our neighbors, and losing sight of what we’re celebrating.
