For the first time in twelve years The Muppets, written by and starring Jason Segal, will be in theaters November 23. A major theme in the new movie (and in all previous Muppet films) is how the characters support one another. This time they’re getting back together to save the old Muppet Theater. Christians can learn from the Muppets. While it’s important for the church to reach out into the world, it’s also essential that we build up one another in Christian love. Key Scriptures: Deuteronomy 15:7-11; Luke 13:10-17; Acts 6:1-7. According to doomsayer Harold Camping, the rapture was supposed to have happened a few weeks ago. But for the second time this year, one of Camping’s end-times predictions failed to come true. Next Sunday is the first Sunday in Advent, a season when we not only prepare to celebrate Christ’s birth two thousand years ago but also when we look forward to Christ’s promised return. Next week we’ll discuss prophecy, we’ll look at ways that we can respond to prophecy, and we’ll examine how Jesus is the fulfillment of prophecy. As Christ’s followers we should not fear the future; we should face the future with hope.
