Following Kanye West’s interruption of Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech at the recent MTV Video Music Awards, Rep. Joe Wilson’s outburst during President Obama’s address about health care, and tennis star Serena Williams’s tirade during the U.S. Open, USA Today asked, “What happened to “civility"? Good question. This week LinC examines the lost art of civility. We’ll look at ways we can prepare ourselves to act civilly, respectfully, and faithfully in all circumstances. After several seasons on the air, Fox’s medical drama House continues to draw big ratings, in large part because of the abrasive personality of its title character. Dr. Gregory House is, to say the least, a difficult person. Dr. House’s staff, colleagues, and patients often are put off by the diagnostician’s arrogance and sarcasm. All of us interact with difficult people; and all of us are sometimes difficult to be around. Next week we’ll explore Christian ways to respond to difficult people.
