The civil war in Syria has raged for more than two years, killing over one hundred thousand people. And there is no resolution in sight. While we can’t end Syria’s civil war, we must respond to it. We serve a God who cares passionately for those who suffer. And we believe that God lived among us in Jesus, who began his life as a refugee on the run from a murderous dictator, and identifies with the least among us. LinC explores ways we, as Christians, can bring our prayers and witness to bear on the crisis in Syria. Key Scriptures: Psalm 56; 146; Matthew 2:13-23; Acts 9:1-22. After years of playing bit parts, former Hollywood megastar Michael J. Fox is back on television, starring in his own NBC sitcom, The Michael J. Fox Show. Fox’s new show is especially remarkable because the former Back to the Future star has decided to make his very public struggle with Parkinson’s disease a central plot point. In so doing, he helps viewers better understand what it is like to live with a chronic degenerative illness. Next week LinC reminds us that as God’s children it’s important that we make an effort to see the world from the perspectives of our brothers and sisters. We should strive to better understand their struggles, challenges, passions, and aspirations. When we are able to empathize with one another, we grow in love and in faith.
