Miley Cyrus’s performance at the recent MTV Video Music Awards sparked a national conversation about the line between creative expression and tastelessness. While many observers were offended by Cyrus’s twerking and sexualized gyrations, others argued that popular styles of music and dance have been a form of rebellion against established society for generations. Many entertainers whose acts were once considered shocking have since been embraced by American culture. So how do we determine what is harmless and entertaining and what is hurtful or dangerous? LinC explores this question and talks about how we can honor the God, in whose image we are made, with all of our art and entertainment choices. And there is no resolution in the works. While we can’t end Syria’s civil war, we must respond to it. We serve a God who cares passionately for those who suffer. And we believe that God lived among us in Jesus, who began his life as a refugee on the run from a murderous dictator and identifies with the least among us. Next week we’ll discuss how we, as Christians, can bring our prayers and witness to bear on the crisis in Syria.
