The Sci-Fi Channel's original series Battlestar Galactica has popularized the word “frak” as an alternative swear word. The common use of frak and many other four-letter-word substitutes raises the questions: "What makes a word offensive?" and "What words should be off limits?" Shortly after presidential candidate John McCain chose Sarah Palin as his running mate, news broke that Palin's teenage daughter, Bristol, was pregnant. Most pundits either criticized Palin's parenting or praised the Palins for Bristol's decision not to have an abortion. Few expressed genuine concern for the young woman and the challenges she'll face as a teen mother.
