The recent floods in Pakistan have affected more people than any other recent natural disaster. Yet much of the global community has overlooked this crisis, and donations to relief efforts have been paltry. Also many other disasters, conflicts, and epidemics never make the “world” news. Yet the forgotten victims of these tragedies are God's beloved creations. LinC reminds us that as God's eyes, ears, and hands in the world, we have a responsibility to pray for hurting people, to raise awareness of overlooked crises, to give, and to extend a helping hand. Key Scriptures: Jonah 4; Mark 10:46-52; Luke 4:16-30; John 3:16. The Grand Design, the much-anticipated new book from renowned physicist and popular author Stephen Hawking, claims that the universe can create itself from nothing and that God is not necessary. The claim has generated headlines and given new life to an old debate about the origins of the cosmos. But we shouldn't get the impression that faith and science can't play nice with each other. Next week LinC looks at how we, as Christians, can affirm God as Creator and use science as a way to better understand and appreciate the magnitude of God's creation.
