The first episode of The American Bible Challenge, which aired recently on GSN, was the highest-rated show in the network’s history. The show tests contestants’ knowledge of Scripture. And, if the 1.7 million viewers who tuned in for the show’s debut are any indication, a lot of people are eager to put their Bible expertise to the test by answering the questions posed by host Jeff Foxworthy. The Bible raises a lot of questions, some of which can’t be answered in a trivia game. Perhaps most important is a question that Jesus asked Peter: “Who do you say that I am?” LinC wrestles with the answers to Jesus’ question and other deep questions of faith. Key Scriptures: Job 19:25; 42:1-6; Matthew 16:13-20; Mark 8:11-21. Football season is underway. For most high school and college teams, the highlight of the football season is the rivalry game. These games usually involve opponents who are geographically close and whose students and graduates have friends, family, and acquaintances affiliated with the rival school. Most of us encounter rivals at some point in our lives. Rivalries can get ugly and bring out the worst in people, but they also have the potential to build up people. The Bible gives us plenty of accounts of rivalries—some that tear apart families and nations and others that are mutually beneficial. Next week we’ll look at ways that we can honor God and one another in our rivalries.
