Recent years have seen a dramatic increase in the number of online communities and the number of people who participate in these communities. While people are presumably more connected than ever, living life on the Web has left many people feeling lonely and disconnected. This week LinC looks at ways that online communities create or contribute to loneliness and at how we can connect with God and others with or without technology. Key Scriptures: Numbers 12:1-9; Matthew 27:45-46; 1 Corinthians 12:12-13, 26-27. While the raunchy comedy SuperBad was tops at the box office, the Disney Channel’s wholesome High School Musical 2 was breaking basic cable ratings records. Both movies are about high school students, but one thrives on bathroom humor and sexual innuendo while the other relies on puppy love and snappy song-and-dance routines. The contrast between these two films is almost as stark as the contrast between the “works of the flesh” and “fruit of the Spirit” in Paul’s letter to the Galatians. Next week LinC looks at how we can “live by the Spirit” and “not gratify the desires of the flesh” (Galatians 5:16).
