According to virtually every economic indicator, the American economy is struggling. High food and energy prices, job losses, and home foreclosures have left many families in dismal financial straits. Everyone is looking for ways to save money and asking when (or if) things will begin looking up. Our faith does not exempt us from hard times, but it does offer valuable guidance for coping with them. The presidential campaign has been in full swing for more than a year, and we've not even had the party conventions yet. Many who are weary of the non-stop coverage are wondering if November 4 will ever arrive. Next week we’ll use this seemingly endless campaign as an opportunity to talk about expectant waiting. As Christians, we wait expectantly, not for election day, but for the coming of God’s kingdom. And God has given us plenty of work to do that will keep us from becoming bored or anxious while we wait.
