Millions of Americans have inadequate health care. As policymakers, pundits, and activists debate the best way to meet these people's needs, LinC looks at health from a Christian perspective. On August 5, LinC reminds us that Jesus calls us to be healers, to work for the physical and spiritual well-being of all of God's children. How do we promote health and healthy living in the church? How do we care for our society's most vulnerable people? And how can we apply Christ's teachings to the health-care debate in our country? Key Scriptures: Psalm 72; Mark 1:32-34, 40-45; 1 Timothy 2:1-2; James 5:13-16. The recent discovery of an underground, fresh water lake in the Darfur region of the Sudan could bring much needed relief to that war-torn region, possibly ending the years of conflict that have taken hundreds of thousands of lives. On the other hand, the struggle to control a valuable resource such as fresh water could make the genocidal conflict even worse. As Christians, we know the power of water, a power that we experience in the Spirit-filled waters of our baptism. On August 12, we look at water as God’s life-giving force and explore ways that we can draw from the deep well of our baptism.
