In Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, the sixth installment of the popular book and movie franchise, Lord Voldemort and his minions are gaining strength, casting a dark shadow of death, destruction, and evil over the wizarding world (and the muggle world as well). Christians aren't always comfortable talking about evil, sin, and death, but Scripture and church tradition warn us not to take these unpleasant realities lightly. LinC looks at how we can recognize wickedness in our world and be a witness of the goodness of God's kingdom even in the face of evil. Key Scriptures: Proverbs 25:21-22; Habakkuk 1:1-4, 13; 2:1-3; Matthew 4:1-11; 2 Corinthians 5:16-21. The new teen comedy I Love You, Beth Cooper tells the story of geeky valedictorian Denis Cooverman after he professes his undying affection for popular head cheerleader Beth Cooper during his commencement address. Beth finds Denis's confession charming and takes him on the adventure of his life. Though Christians won't condone all of the goings-on in the movie, we can definitely affirm the film's basic message: Every moment is precious, and we have no time to waste on regrets or missed chances. For Christians this means embracing every day as an opportunity to use our gifts, abilities, and energy in service of God and others.
