Road trip! Summer, more than any other season, is a time when people hit the road. Millions of Americans each summer join with family, friends, church groups, scouting groups, and traveling sports teams; pile in a car, van, or bus; and spend countless hours rolling down the Interstate en route to their destination. But before we hop in the car, we must prepare. We have to pack, book hotel rooms or campsites, make sure we know where we’re going, and make sure someone will take care of our plants and pets in our absence. Even when we’re on the road, we are continually preparing for the next leg of the journey. This week LinC looks at the preparations that we make on our spiritual journeys so that we’re always ready for where God is taking us. Key Scriptures: Genesis 41:15-37; 1 Kings 17:8-16; 1 Chronicles 28:9-20; Matthew 3:1-17. In recent months, several sports coaches, elected officials, and other public figures have been forced out of their jobs, not only for breaking rules or acting inappropriately but also for lying and covering up what they had done. In almost all of these cases, the consequences of the coverup were more severe than the consequences of the initial crime. Next week, we’ll look at some examples of biblical “coverups,” discuss the consequences of dishonesty, look at how we can avoid making lying a habit, and make a commitment to truth-telling.
