Hi-yo, Silver! Away! The Lone Ranger, an iconic American hero who first appeared in 1930’s radio serials, has ridden back into theaters for the first time in more than three decades. This summer’s Lone Ranger film emphasizes the relationship between the title character and his companion, Tonto. The masked man and his Comanche friend need and rely on each other as they seek justice in the American West. As followers of Jesus we also need companions. We are not meant to be “lone” Christians. This week we’ll look at the importance of having Christian friends and partners who can offer support, encouragement, and accountability. Key Scriptures: Judges 4:4-16; Ruth 1:1-18; John 21:1-19; Acts 13:13-52. Have you been to church camp this summer? Will you be going later this month? Maybe you’ve been to another type of camp, such as band camp or scout camp or 4-H camp. Often going to camp involves meeting new people and making new friends. Some of these friendships last one week; others last a lifetime. This week we talked about companionship. As we reflect on this lesson and on the friends we have made—or will make—over the summer, it’s important that we remember that, in God, we have an eternal friend. God desires a lasting relationship with each one of us. Next week, we’ll discuss our relationship with God and what it means for God to be our friend.
