The Transformers franchise returns to theaters this summer with Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. Once again, Optimus Prime and the heroic Autobots must protect humanity from the villainous Decepticons. And once again, Sam Witwicky, the movie's human protagonist, finds himself in the middle of an intergalactic feud. While few of us are called to participate in battles between giant robots, like Sam, we all find ourselves in situations not of our choosing where we are expected to act. How can we respond to these situations faithfully? And how can we, with God’s help, prepare ourselves for the unexpected? President Obama's speech in Cairo earlier this month, as well as the recent controversial election in Iran, have drawn attention to the United States’ relationship with the Muslim world. These events also have many American Christians thinking about Christian-Muslim relations. Next week we’ll look at ways that we can grow in our understanding of Islam and our relationships with Muslims while more fully embracing Christ and our Christian faith.
