VH1's new show You're Cut Off! debuts this week. The program follows nine young women from very wealthy families who must cope without the money, comforts, and conveniences that their families' money has provided. VH1 describes the show as "spoiled rotten rehab." You're Cut Off! examines the power of materialism and entitlement. This week LinC explores the dangers of materialism and entitlement. What does it mean to be spoiled? Can we be obsessed with worldly things without even knowing it? Key Scriptures: Deuteronomy 8:7-20; 1 Kings 3:3-14; 11:1-13; Philippians 4:10-20; 1 Timothy 6:17-19. After nearly two months, oil from the Deepwater Horizon rig continues to spill into the Gulf of Mexico, causing untold environmental damage to coastal beaches and wetlands and untold economic damage to communities along the Gulf Coast. In the face of such a catastrophe, people point fingers and look for someone to blame. But, as we will discuss next week, responsibility for the oil spill doesn't just fall on BP or government regulators; and finger-pointing is no substitute for faithfully responding to a crisis.
