The iPhone app Snapchat launched last fall but, thanks to increased media attention, became one of the most popular free iOS applications in April and May. The creators of Snapchat say that the app, which allows users to send photos that disappear without a trace after ten seconds or fewer, makes communicating by picture messaging feel more human and natural. But plenty of Snapchat users see the app as an opportunity to send explicit photos without consequences. Snapchat is one of many technologies that can be easily abused and used for risky and inappropriate behavior. Next week LinC looks at how we can be righteous and holy in the ways we present ourselves in the digital world. Summer is an in-between time for youth. Is a teen who just completed eighth grade a high schooler, or is she still an eighth-grader? What about the 18-year-old who has graduated from high school but hasn’t yet joined the work force or gone off to college? Is he an adult, or still a kid? The Bible is full of stories about and instructions for in-between times. As Christians we are the ultimate in-betweeners. We have been reborn in Christ, yet we still struggle with sin; we are part of God’s kingdom, but we still live in a broken world. LinC talks about these in-between times and how to be God’s people where we are while looking forward to what God has in store for us. Key Scriptures: Genesis 6:9–7:7; Esther 4:10-15; Jeremiah 29:4-7; Acts 1:3-5.
