Lady Gaga’s controversial new song and video “Judas” have put the notorious disciple back into the spotlight. The song’s lyrics are about being in love with “Judas,” whom Gaga says represents bad choices, regrets, and people who have hurt and betrayed us. In that sense, all of us have been “in love with Judas.” Lady Gaga’s solution to being infatuated with things that are bad for us is “honoring your darkness in order to bring yourself into the light.” LinC reminds us that we don’t have the power to bring ourselves into the light and that, as Christians, we must rely on Christ to rescue us from darkness. Key Scriptures: Matthew 27:3-10; Mark 16:9-14; Luke 8:1-3; John 20:11-18; Romans 7:15–8:4. The recent Mississippi River floods are among the worst disasters caused by the Mighty Mississippi in the past century. As storms drenched the Mississippi Valley in April, the Army Corps of Engineers had to make some tough choices. In some places, blasting a hole in a levee or opening a floodgate would flood hundreds of thousands of acres of farmland or marsh but would keep the floodwaters from wiping out entire towns. In other words, the Corps had to choose the best of two really bad options. We may also find ourselves in situations where we have no good options. After all, we live in a sinful, broken world. Next week we’ll look at how we can turn to God for guidance when we face impossible situations.
