Iron Man 3, the latest addition to Marvel’s Cinematic Universe, experienced one of the biggest opening weekend’s in history and set opening-day box office records in several countries. In his first post-Avengers adventure Tony Stark struggles with the question of where he gets his power. Does it come from the technological wizardry of his Iron Man armor, from within himself, or from somewhere else? As Christians we know that our power comes from the Holy Spirit, but we’re often tempted to seek other kinds of power. LinC talks about power and how to make faithful use of the power that God gives us. Key Scriptures: Exodus 15:1-20; 1 Kings 3:1-15; Matthew 4:1-11; 2 Timothy 1:8-14
As Christians we are a people of hope. But there are situations in which being hopeful seems naive. And, as a result, hope seems lost. Such was the case for the three young women who were recently rescued after being held captive in a house in Cleveland for a decade. Next week LinC discusses this recent tragedy in Cleveland and explores the subject of hope. As Christians we’ll talk about what gives us hope. We’ll discuss how the promise of hope is never an excuse to overlook or dismiss the very real suffering that people experience. And we’ll look at ways that we can bring the hope of Christ to a hurting world.
