This week we'll take a look at one of our culture's strangest holidays and talk about ways in which we can be “fools for the sake of Christ” (1 Corinthians 4:10). Key Scriptures: Judges 7:1-9, 15-23; Matthew 13:1-8; 1 Corinthians 1:18-31. Many were outraged when the American International Group (AIG) announced that it would be using $165 million of its taxpayer-funded bailout money for executive bonuses. When the already wealthy leaders of a failing company pocket millions of dollars in taxpayer assistance while millions of others are losing their jobs and homes, accusations of greed and gluttony are inevitable. Of course greed and gluttony in our culture are hardly limited to corporate executives. Next week we'll talk about gluttony and examine the excesses in our individual lives. How do greed and gluttony keep us from being the people God calls us to be?
