In the upcoming movie The Host, based on a popular novel by Twilight author Stephenie Meyer, alien parasites called “souls” possess human beings, taking complete control of their minds. The hero of the story is also possessed, but by a gentle “soul,” with whom she is able to work. Soul is a word that we use frequently in the church but seldom take time to define. LinC talks about the soul—the essential part of us that most fully reflects the image of God. And we’ll talk about how we can live a Spirit- and soul-filled life. Key Scriptures: Genesis 2:4-24; Psalm 42; Matthew 12:15-37.
Next week, as we are observing Palm Sunday and beginning Holy Week, Jewish families and congregations will be preparing to celebrate Passover, which begins next Monday at sunset. The Passover celebration, which commemorates the Israelites’ escape from slavery in Egypt, was the reason that Jesus, an observant Jew, traveled to Jerusalem on Palm Sunday. His final meal with his disciples was a Passover seder meal. Next week we’ll learn about Passover, the role that it plays in the story of our faith, and its connection to the Christian sacrament of Holy Communion.
