February 20 was Presidents’ Day. Or was it? Technically the day we know as Presidents’ Day is a federal holiday in honor of George Washington’s birthday, which falls on February 22. Like the holiday that isn’t really Presidents’ Day, many of us are guilty of pretending to be something we aren’t. So in honor of Washington’s Birthday (February 20’s true identity), LinC will explore how we can embrace our true identities and resist the temptation to masquerade as someone we’re not. The presidential candidacy of Mitt Romney and the success of The Book of Mormon on Broadway have drawn attention to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, better known as Mormonism. While the LDS Church has been around since the middle of the nineteenth century and there are more than six million Mormons in the United States today, questions and misconceptions about this growing religion persist. Next week we’ll address some of these questions and misunderstandings, look at ways that we can work alongside Mormons, and reaffirm the Christian faith that we profess.
