February 19 is Transfiguration Sunday, the day of the Christian calendar when we remember the time Jesus was transformed in front of his closest disciples. “His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as light” (Matthew 17:2, CEB); and Peter, James, and John were terrified by what they saw. LinC talks about fear and how even the things of God can be frightening. We’ll look at the roots of our fear, and we’ll talk about how God’s love liberates us from fear. We’ll also look ahead to Lent, which begins the following Wednesday. Key Scriptures: Luke 22:39-46; John 11:1-48; Exodus 14:5-18; Mark 9:2-12. February 20 is President’s Day. Or is it? Technically the day we know as President’s Day is a federal holiday in honor of George Washington’s birthday, which falls on February 22. Like the holiday that isn’t really President’s Day, many of us are guilty of pretending to be something we aren’t. So in honor of Washington’s Birthday (February 20’s true identity), the next issue of LinC will explore how we can embrace our true identities and resist the temptation to masquerade as someone we’re not.
