Satire has been the big news story over the past few weeks. What seemed to be a humorous attempt at revealing Islam’s faults, the Charlie Hebdo cartoons ruffled more than a few feathers. Extremists responded by attacking the magazine’s offices and leaving several dead. This week LinC explores the use of satire in the Bible and in life, as well as reflects on whether or not, as Christians, we take ourselves too seriously. Key Scriptures: 1 Kings 18:25-40; Matthew 23; Acts 17:16-33. Now that the Super Bowl is over, hopefully the “deflategate” controversy will be put to rest. Some have scoffed at what seems like petty jealousy, while others see it—and past New England Patriot actions—as a lack of integrity. The desire to win often tempts us to believe the end justifies any means necessary, including dishonesty. Next week’s LinC will examine God’s desire for us to live our lives with integrity.
