The angel Castiel has become a fixture on the popular CW show Supernatural; the plot of the new movie Legion involves God sending angels to earth to destroy humankind; popular author Anne Rice has made angels the centerpiece of her latest series of novels. Angels have become so prevalent in American pop culture that some have wondered if angels are the new vampires. But how do these cultural portrayals of God’s messengers stack up against the angels we read about in Scripture? This week LinC looks at what the Bible says about angels and what that means for how we live our lives as Christians. Key Scriptures: Luke 2:8-14; Acts 12:6-17; Hebrews 1:1-14. While LinC has a policy of avoiding R-rated movies, the new film The Book of Eli is interesting because it stars devout Christian Denzel Washington and the Holy Bible. Rather than focus on Eli, next week we'll turn our attention to the Bible: what it is, how it came to be, and how we can use it faithfully. Scripture serves as a companion on our spiritual journey—not only as something we read and study but also as something we experience.
