In this cute-meet holiday story, Carter is an uninspired insurance adjuster who decides to add a little zest to his mundane job by creatively embellishing his insurance accident reports. With Christmas around the corner he finds himself scoffing at the holiday displays that seem to go up earlier and earlier each year and is disdainful of the heartwarming holiday novels that sell so briskly. He associates Christmas with heartbreak because his parents divorced during the holidays and now his mother wants to remarry and have a Christmas wedding.
Abby works for her uncle in the quaint, New England family bookstore in Massachusetts and is a freelance editor. She can't wait until October to build her favorite holiday store display: the annual Christmas book tree stack.
An accident which totals her car throws Carter and Abby together when he is the agent assigned to write her accident report. This time his embellished report gets him fired and he and Abby team up on his new writing project --a novel--and he secretly helps Abby's uncle write his obituary as the couple learn some important life lessons together: Laugh More, Hope More, Give More, Forgive More, Love More.
