Relating But Not Emerging

  • By R. C. Williams

Product Description
The postmodern worldview held by younger generations in America is very different than the worldview held by older generations. Nevertheless, almost all Americans are being subtly affected by postmodern ideas. Postmodern thinking promotes toleration for all religious beliefs concerning truth and moral standards. In postmodern thinking, there are no absolute truths in religion and all religions are necessarily equal. The ways in which Christian churches respond to postmodern thinking differ. The emerging church and house church movements respond in ways they believe are most effective. R. C. Williams disagrees with some of the emerging church and house church advocates who think that the more traditional churches can never effectively minister to people with a postmodern mindset. Accordingly, Williams describes how small to medium sized churches can have effective ministries to postmodern generations without denying the absolute truths of the Gospel. R. C. Williams was the pastor of Grace Fellowship Evangelical Free Church in North Stonington, CT for nineteen years where he began as the church planter. He received a Master of Divinity from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School and a Doctor of Ministry from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. Prior to entering into the ministry, he served twenty-four years as a U.S. Coast Guard officer flying both seaplanes and helicopters as a search and rescue pilot. He is a graduate of the USCG Academy and retired as a captain in the Coast Guard. While in the Coast Guard he received a Master of Aerospace Operations Management degree from the University of Southern California.
