Preachers Present Arms is the result of many years of research in libraries, religious periodicals (including many obscure ones), newspaper clippings, innumerable pamphlets, sermons, and addresses of the war periods. Pertinent books on the subject run into the hundreds of volumes. Ray H. Abrams (1896-1983) was Associate Professor Emeritus at the University of Pennsylvania where he taught sociology for thirty-seven years. He came from a long line of Baptist ancestors on both sides of his family and served as a Protestant minister before teaching sociology.
