The Lapsley Saga tells the story of Samuel N. Lapsley, the two paddle wheelers named for him, and their crews, who, like the powerful Zaire River, forever influenced the lives of those in the African Congo. In 1891 Lapsley journeyed up the Zaire River to establish the Luebo mission station and the American Presbyterian Congo Mission. He died of blackwater fever two years later, but in those two years, Lapsley's devotion to his work and faith in God branded his name on the African landscape.
