We are encouraged in God's Word to keep the faith and finish the race, believed by many as a race of endurance through life. However, finishing the race could be when you are facing end-stage cancer as a hospice patient, which hospice social worker and author Loren Hardin recounts in his new book, Straight Paths: Insights for living from those who have finished the course. The collection of personal stories comes from Loren's forty-one years of assisting hospice patients, many as they prepare for heaven. Loren got the idea to write the life lessons from his patients when caring for an elderly man with end-stage lung cancer; the man's, and others', insights became a weekly newspaper column Loren wrote. What Loren learned over his years of service is he was called by God to spread patients' advice on releasing fear, rebuilding relationships and learning to love again through Jesus.
