Pete was an actual dog owned by the author, but he died of cancer after many years of adventures and misadventures. Much of his life is recorded in the book in memory of this special dog. Pete did actually fall into the pool, step into shoes with his paw, and pull people to the side of the pool. May readers remember the special dogs in their life as they read this book.
