Continuing an Ancient Tradition In the early days of Christianity, when the first intellectuals became converts, a strong tradition of "Faith seeking understanding" was begun. Reaching high points with Augustine of Hippo and Thomas Aquinas, it has found members today with Chesterton and Teilhard de Chardin.
