As a youth prepares to take the vows of confirmation, he or she needs to be surrounded by mature Christian adults who can love, guide, and nurture him or her. This love and nurturing starts at home, with the youth’s parent or guardian.
But what does it look like for a parent to be involved in his or her child’s confirmation. What should the parent and youth talk about? What sorts of questions should a parent ask? What can a youth learn from his or her parent’s experiences of faith?
Credo Confirmation TalkPoints® for Parents and Youth provides seven guided conversations that young people going through confirmation can have with their parents:
• My Story
• What’s Important to Me
• Choices • Living Our Faith
• Service
• My God
• Growth
For each conversation, both the parent and the youth have a TalkPoints® sheet on which they can jot down responses to questions and discussion prompts. These sheets provide an outline for what the parent and youth will talk about.
This book also includes an outline for a special letter than a parent can write to his or her youth as he or she nears the end of the confirmation journey.
