Addiction is no longer limited to drug and alcohol abuse. It has expanded in American society to include almost all human activities that can be performed in excess which seems to be today?'s standard as we constantly seek bigger, better, more. The old saying, Keeping up with the Jones couldn t be more applicable to our way of life as we strive to have, to do, and to be more. We are self and other defined by our careers, the expense of our cars, and the size of our homes - all materialistic things that tend to create a mere caricature of who we are. We need things to make us feel complete; things to provide the interior balance missing in our modern lives. And things to disguise who and what we are. So, what is missing from our lives? And who and what are we? Addictive Lies attempts to answer these questions by incorporating Christian fundamentals into psychological thought. It presents a God-based view of addiction determining the cause and providing practical suggestions for a cure. Addiction is an ill-fated attempt to regain interior balance. It is the excessiveness used to restore and maintain balance through artificial means; a dependency of choice intended to mask the void in our heart. We all have our addictions. What is yours? Food? Computer pornography? Shopping? Control? What makes you feel good? What fills the void in your heart? What things do you stuff into that void to feel better? Addiction is a temporary fix. Addictive Lies intends to provide the permanent fix rooted in God.
